Music

Welcome to the section of our website relating to Music in Willow Tree Primary School.

Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity.   We aim to provide a high quality music education that engages and inspires our children to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians.

We intend to increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they will develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination to a variety of musical genres.  Also we collect evidence of progress from each lesson in large Music Books. These also show progress from year group  to year group.

At Willow Tree Primary School we value singing and the ability to play an instrument and so signpost parents to opportunities for their children to take part in Musical events elsewhere.  For example see the flier at the bottom of this page for free activities in 2022.

Aims
The national curriculum for music aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians

  •  learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence
  • understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.

Our School also purchases high quality musical teaching from St Helen's Music Services.  Teachers with a specialism in Music teach our children to sing and play instruments such as Cello, as well as Violin, Viola, Ukulele and Clarinet.

Also through Music Service the pupils have the opportunity to access the ensembles from beginner to senior groups across all disciplines and also the many wider community events such as Christmas Sing

You will find below the school policy curriculum overview and also the curriculum overview for St Helen's Music Services.
